Catching up with Jessica Egan

Jessica Egan was a member of Cohort VI.

At that time, she was a Research Scientist with the Food Protection section of the New York State Department of Health.

Since then, Jessica assumed greater responsibility as a Research Scientist at the New York State Department of Health. Jessica oversees the Food Safety Inspection Officer standardization program for all staff who inspect food service establishments in New York State, and administers the statewide summer feeding program, which ensures safe food is provided to children across the state throughout the summer months.

Jessica is a lead investigator in several research projects looking at trends in critical violation writing and plays a key role in facilitating New York State’s adoption of the Model Food Code.

Jessica is active in several food safety initiatives at the state and federal level. Jessica is a member of the Northeast Food and Drug Officials Association (NEFDOA) and sits on the Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) Food Recovery Committee. She is the voting delegate representing the New York State Department of Health at the 2023 Conference for Food Protection.

“Participating in the IFPTI Fellowship was such a uniquely invaluable experience. I don’t think there is anything else that could replace it. Beforehand, I knew what I did every day to promote food safety, but through the Fellowship, I saw how my piece fit into the greater food safety puzzle. I wish I could say it was all work, but the Fellowship also gave me a group of dear friends. The IFPTI mentors and co-fellows became like family, and I look forward to every opportunity to see them again.”
