Preston W. Hicks, PhD., LPC is the Vice President of Resource Development and Evaluation for GFPI. He leads GFPI’s fund development, business development, and evaluation efforts. He also advances the development of GFPI’s programs, products, and services.
Preston earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the University of Virginia in Psychology and Counseling respectively. He earned a Doctorate of Philosophy from The University of Michigan’s Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education; there he was awarded the Rackham Merit Fellowship. Preston brings to GFPI a wealth of management experience in higher education and human services. Prior to joining GFPI, Preston served as the development director for Western Michigan University’s (WMU) College of Health and Human Services. He is an instructor in WMU’s School of Public Affairs and Administration; teaching graduate courses in fund raising and strategic planning. Prior to his work at WMU, Preston was an independent sector consultant, development director and operations management team member for Starr Commonwealth Schools, multicultural affairs director for Albion College, and Research Scientist at the Virginia Transportation Research Council.
Preston’s academic interests include philanthropy, organizational behavior, and diversity and inclusion. His research has been sponsored by the Association of Fund Raising Professionals, and the National Association of Student Affairs Professionals.
