As a result of the overwhelming response to our October course, an
encore delivery of the “Application of Basics of Inspection and
Investigation” Course is being held on January 12-14, 2010, in Battle
Creek, Michigan. This course is once again being sponsored by the
International Food Protection Training Institute (IFPTI) in
collaboration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the
Association of Food and Drug Officials (AFDO). This is a great
opportunity to provide the basic application of inspection concepts to
food protection professionals with limited real-life experience, and is
available to federal, state, local, territorial and tribal regulators.
For applicants selected to participate in this course, travel-related
expenses will be reimbursed according to AFDO's policies. Applications
must be received by the AFDO office no later than Thursday, November

WASHINGTON—Following
last week’s House and Senate approval of the 2010 Agriculture
Appropriations bill, Congressman Mark Schauer (D-Battle Creek) today
announced $1 million in federal funding for the International Food
Protection Training Institute in Battle Creek. The funding was
requested by Congressman Schauer, Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Sen. Carl
Levin, and represents the first substantial federal funding for a food
training institute of its kind. The bill now advances to President
Obama to be signed into law.“This critical funding will help strengthen the important work that is
already underway at the Institute to make sure food inspectors have the
necessary skills to keep our food supply safe,” said Schauer. “I’m
optimistic that we can capitalize on this momentum to secure permanent
federal support for the Institute, which is one of my top priorities in
Congress.”

Congress Provides $1 Million To The International Food Protection
Training Institute For Training State & Local Food Safety Officials

Training Institute (IFPTI) announced that the U.S. Senate and House of
Representatives have passed legislation which includes $1 million for
the institute to train state and local food safety inspectors. The
Fiscal Year 2010 Appropriations bill provides funding for the
Department of Agriculture, Food and Drug Administration, rural
development programs, and related agencies. The bill will now be sent

inspectors and law enforcement officials from around the country are
converging on Battle Creek to learn how to keep the national food
supply chain safe.
Some of the first students of the newly created International Food
Protection Training Institute are meeting this week at Western Michigan
University's Kendall Center in downtown Battle Creek.
